Advanced Wound Care
All wounds are expected to progress normally by following a specific orderly sequence to heal in a timely manner. Those that have not resolved in 4 weeks' time are classified as chronic and non-healing. The challenges associated with wound healing are complicating factors that include underlying medical conditions such as diabetes, musculoskeletal disorders, vascular disease and malnutrition, dementia, obesity, impaired mobility or sensation, presence of infection and psychosocial stress. Chronic and acute wounds can have a detrimental impact on patients and their family members. These wounds are often painful and can affect activities of daily living, interrupt social interaction, lead to reduced work hours and cause depression.
